Orville Stanley Smith
Orville Stanley, son of Mrs. Beulah Smith of Albert Oklahoma, was born June 13, 1916 at Verden, Oklahoma, and attended high school at Iran, Texas, graduating in 1933 as Valedictorian of his class.

Orville enlisted in the service at El Paso, Texas, October 19, 1934, and received three months training at San Diego, California.  Orville then went aboard the USS California where he served until November 1935, when he was sent to Norfolk, Virginia to attend prep school.

He was honorably discharged July 8, 1936, to enter the US Naval academy at Annapolis, Maryland July 9, 1936.  He graduated from the acedemy and was commissioned June 6, 1940, and went aboard the USS Arizona June 29, 1940.

Ensign Smith had served 18 months overseas on the USS Arizona when he was killed.
