Willard Carleton Orr

W. Carleton Orr was born on April 12, 1920 in Bangor, Maine.  He attended Sherburne School, Hanibal School and graduated from Bangor High School in 1939. 

Mr. Orr was a member of All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor.  He was very active in the young people's fellowship.  He was active in the dramatic club and Latin Club in high school and was secretary of the Latin Club.  His principle love was debating and as Class Debator and Tournament Debator, he was awarded a Certificate of Honor Cum Laude.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Mr. Orr enjoyed fishing, swimming, reading, poem collecting, stamp collecting and writing essays.

Mr. Orr became a clerk and general aid for a market gardener after graduation until he enlisted on December 23, 1939.  Mr. Orr was a private First Class in the Army Air Corps, 17th Air Base Group (Serial Number 6149312-AC).  He was on duty as a head cook at Hickam Field, Hawaii when killed by the enemy attack on December 7, 1941.

Mr. Orr received a Presidential citation and was awarded the Purple Heart.
