Joseph Sam L. "Leonide" Lemire was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was likely on the fantail, standing on the deck, waiting for the church launch from the USS Vestal to take him ashore for Sunday mass. He never made it. He was probably killed within the first hour of the attack. (Speculated by Oscar Jacobson based on Lemire's regular schedule). |
