Ralph "Red" Hollis

Born:  September 10, 1906, Godfrey Georgia
Education:  High school class of 1923, valedictorian
Married:  January 1, 1929 to Hermione Campbell
Service Record:  Enlisted in the Navy as apprentice seaman, fall 1923; discharged, March 1926.  Joined Naval Reserve November 1934.  Called to active duty May 1941.  Reported aboard battleship Arizona September 18, 1941.  Posthumously received Purple Heart, the American Defense service medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area campaign medal and World War II Victory medal.

In a letter to his mother in Georgia dated December 1, 1941, Ralph "Red" Hollis, USS Arizona, wrote:  "Within a week we will be at war with Japan."  He did not elaborate.  The letter arrived after his death.
