Reese was my mother's first cousin, although they never met. Both families moved away from the original Homestead, Denton, MD. Reese's family went to Texas and later Iowa, while my mother's went all over, finally settling in Minnesota. Below is the information that I have gathered so far on Reese's Reese Olin Griffin was born in TX July 1917. Reese died 7 December 1941 in Pearl Harbor, HI, at 24 years of age. (He was killed on Battleship Arizona due to Japanese bombing to start World War II. He was an EM3C, USN, i.e., an electrician mate third class.) Reese was listed as age two 6/12 in the 1920 census for Houston, Harris Co, TX living with his parents. He was listed as age 13 in the 1930 census for Des Moines, Polk Co, IA living with his father. He was killed at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese bombed his ship, the USS Arizona. His name is listed on the wall of the memorial, his rank was EM3c. Information provided by Bill Colehour |
