Carter's quarters on the Arizona were in the stern, which was only partially submerged when the ship sank. Some of his waterlogged personal effects that were retrieved will also be on display in Pearl Harbor. They include Carter's glasses and his billfold, which contained his crossing-th-Equator certificate, his Navy pass and two 1941 snapshots of himself with Edyth. In these, Carter proudly wears his new warrant officer's uniform, acquired when he was promoted that April.
