Freddie was born May 17, 1923 in Binger, Oklahoma. He enlisted June 16, 1941 in Oklahoma City, just barely 18 years old. Freddie arrived at the recruit training depot in San Diego on June 19, 1941, and attended sea school in San Diego on August 16, 1941. On October 3, 1941, he left San Diego aboard the USS Wharton arriving at Pearl Harbor on October 10, 1941 and immediately joined the USS Arizona. Freddie was declared dead by the Secretary of the Navy on January 22, 1942. On November 18, 1949 his remains were declared non-recoverable. In addition to the Purple Heart, Freddie he was awarded the American defense service medal with fleet clasp. His service number was 314538. |
